Encinitas Support Fund Grows to $97,000.00

Encinitas, CA— May 20, 2020 —

On April 15th, 2020, the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Foundation, which manages the Encinitas Support Fund, opened applications for small businesses to apply for grants to help them survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

From large and small donations, all of which have made a huge impact, the Encinitas Support Fund has continued to grow and is incredibly close to the goal of raising $100,000.00 for local businesses. The Cardiff-by-the-Sea Foundation raised an initial $30,000.00 from grass roots community members and organizations; the Harbaugh Foundation then made a matching grant, donating an additional $30,000.00, which brought the fund to $60,000.00. With additional donations from the Harbaugh Foundation, the 101 Mainstreets, and other local nonprofits like the Rob Machado Foundation, Leichtag Foundation, and private donors David O. Tanner, Kevin Doyle, Clark-17 Family Charitable Fund, Barratt Photography and more, the fund has grown to $97,000.00. On the donation from his foundation, Rob Machado said

“I started my foundation as a way to support children’s environmental awareness and my hometown community. My wife and I are small business owners in Encinitas and are experiencing first-hand the challenges during this strange time. The Rob Machado Foundation was happy to make a donation to support our fellow local business owners.”

The Encinitas Support Fund has also partnered with Solento Tequila to raise additional funds through a raffle. Taylor Steele, a local in the Encinitas community, jumped onboard through his company, Solento Tequila, to help local businesses. Solento has gathered products from prominent figures in the action sports industry, including Rob Machado, Tony Hawk, and photographer Todd Glaser. The products are being raffled off to raise money for the support fund. Raffle tickets cost $50.00 and can be purchased on www.encinitassupportfund.com for a chance to win the product prize pack. Each raffle ticket purchased is a tax-deductible donation to the Encinitas Support Fund. Rob Machado will pull the winning ticket, live on Solento’s Instagram (@solento_tequila), on June 12th, 2020. Todd Glaser, who donated a print for the raffle said, “I was very excited to donate a print because Encinitas is my home and there is no better time to watch out for one another than right now in our own backyard.”

The Support Fund has received fifty applications so far from small businesses in need of grant funds. The grant committee has moved quickly with approvals and granted $87,000.00 to small businesses in the community. Because of the high number of grant applications, and to make sure that the grant committee could help as many businesses as possible, the Harbaugh Foundation generously provided an additional grant of $20,000.00 last week. The Encinitas Support Fund still has additional applications to process and is moving quickly to approve additional grants. The board of directors of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Foundation are elated with the progress of the support fund and are hopeful that their strong partnerships will bring in the additional funding needed to support all of the grant applications. Cardiff-by-the-Sea Foundation President, Annika Walden said, “It has been a real honor to be a part of such an amazing group of people and community. Small businesses are the bread and butter of Encinitas and we have really come together in this time of crisis.”
