ROB MACHADO FOUNDATION RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT FROM BETTERWORLD TRUST
IN SUPPORT OF FOUNDATIONS’ REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE PROGRAM
EARTH DAY EVENT AT SANDBURG ELEMENTARY, SAN DIEGO, CA

(San Diego, CA – March 25, 2025) The Rob Machado Foundation (RMF) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a generous $50,000 grant from the BetterWorld Trust to support its ongoing mission of providing sustainable solutions for students. The grant will directly fund RMF’s reusable water bottle program in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), ensuring that 15,000 elementary students receive reusable bottles.
Set for April 2025, with a local event on Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22), this initiative will provide eco-friendly, reusable water bottles to students across SDUSD. The distribution will be supported by educational assemblies and lessons on environmental responsibility, aiming to build awareness around watershed protection, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
In honor of Earth Day, Sandburg Elementary has been chosen for two special assemblies, as they are consistently among SDUSD’s Recycling Challenge award winners. The assemblies, presented by Shows That Teach, will feature The Crazy Bottles & Cans Show—an engaging and interactive performance focused on recycling bottles and cans. Through original songs, humor, and competitions, this presentation will provide K-6 students with entertaining yet impactful lessons on the importance of recycling.
To date, RMF has provided 41,000 SDUSD students with reusable water bottles, helping to reduce plastic waste and promote access to clean, sustainable hydration. The new funding from BetterWorld Trust will allow RMF to continue expanding this impact, fostering environmentally conscious habits among young students.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of BetterWorld Trust in furthering our mission,” said Rob Machado, founder of RMF. “Access to reusable water bottles is a simple but powerful way to empower students, reduce single-use plastics, and promote sustainability in our schools and communities.” “This grant not only allows us to further distribute reusable bottles but also helps us educate students, in an engaging and enjoyable way, about the importance of conserving Earth’s natural resources,” states Justine Chiara, Executive Director.
“We feel the Rob Machado Foundation aligns perfectly with BetterWorld Trusts’ vision” said Diane Garrett, Chairman of the Board. “Our Mission is to make this a better world every day and in every way. We strive to partner with innovative and transformative organizations whose programs are sustainable and regenerative with proven measurable and beneficial results. We are honored to be in partnership with RMF, helping to raise awareness on the issues affecting the health of our community and our planet. We are grateful for this collaboration, friendship and opportunity”.
The Rob Machado Foundation has long been dedicated to environmental education and sustainability initiatives, working to provide eco-friendly solutions in schools and communities.
